After travelling around Australia for the past two and a half years, The Kimberley must be my favourite place of all. But where do you start? Kimberley Experiences is here to help you collate the perfect holiday for you. Whatever your age, whatever your budget, whatever your specific interest or bucket list agenda, we’ll match you with the right tour or activity to ensure you make the most of every Kimberley moment.

To help you with some ideas, here are my Top 5 Favourite places in the Kimberley.

  1. Purnululu National Park

Whether you fly in or drive, Purnululu National Park is something special. A World Heritage-listed marvel, there is nothing more magical than the Bungle Bungle beehive- domes or taking in the acoustics of Cathedral Gorge. You don’t have to cram it all into one day, stay at the beautiful Bungle Bungle Savannah Lodge, in one of their private ensuite cabins.

The Best walks:

  • Cathedral Gorge: A natural amphitheatre with stunning acoustics and tranquil beauty.
  • Echidna Chasm: A narrow gorge with glowing orange walls and towering palms.
  • Mini Palms: Climb through rocks and discover paradise.

Must do: Helicopter flight with HeliSpirit – it is worth every cent!

  1. El Questro Wildreness Park

El Questro spans over 700,000 acres of rugged terrain, waterfalls, and thermal springs. It’s an amazing base for exploring the region’s natural wonders. Whether you fancy camping or treating yourself to a luxurious stay at The Homestead, these were my favourite things to do whilst I was at El Questro.

Must-do experiences:

  • Emma Gorge: A dramatic waterfall plunging into a crystal-clear pool surrounded by towering cliffs.
  • Zebedee Springs: Soak in warm thermal pools shaded by lush palms.
  • Chamberlain Gorge: Explore by boat, with towering cliffs and freshwater crocs.
  • Horseback Rides & 4WD Tours: Traverse the outback with expert guides.

  1. Cygent Bay Pearl Farm

Nestled at the tip of the Dampier Peninsula, about 200 km north of Broome, Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm is Australia’s oldest operating pearl farm, run by the Brown family since 1946. It’s not just a working farm, it’s a gateway to the rich history of pearling and Indigenous culture in the Kimberley.

What you should book:

  • Pearling Tours: Witness a live pearl harvest and learn about the intricate process of cultivating South Sea pearls.
  • Helicopter Sunset Picnic Flight: A picnic like no other, fly for 42 minute and discover the beauty of Cygnet Bay from above. Witness the marine life and gorgeous blue waters before landing at your remote picnic spot. Watch the sunset whilst you enjoy a picnic with lots of yummy refreshments.

  1. Lake Argyle

Australia’s second-largest man-made lake is a serene escape surrounded by red cliffs and blue waters.

Top experiences:

Stay at Lake Argyle Resort for infinity pool views that blend seamlessly into the horizon.

Would you like this styled for Instagram captions or expanded into a multi-day itinerary?

  1. The Micthell Falls

Located deep within Mitchell River National Park on the Mitchell Plateau, this four-tiered waterfall cascades over sandstone cliffs, surrounded by ancient rainforest and Indigenous rock art. It’s a place of immense cultural significance to the Wunambal Gaambera people, the Traditional Owners of the land.

If the drive is too far, fly with Aviair and enjoy a day of scenic flying, helicopters and a guided hike.
