The Top End’s Best Luxury Accommodation

Although Western Australia’s Top End is a rugged, remote and rural stretch of country, there is no need to give up comfort, style and quality whilst visiting the Kimberley. There are a number of pristine, comfortable, and luxurious accommodation options nestled amongst stunning scenery, which offer indulgent accommodation and hospitality to those who like to travel in comfort. Here are three of our favourite luxury stays:

  1. Berkeley River Lodge

The stunning Berkeley River Lodge is located in Oombulgurri on the Kimberley Coast between Kununurra and Darwin, and is the definition of a remote holiday spot. The Lodge is only accessible by air, with its own landing strip, meaning that getting to the Lodge is an adventure in itself. Berkeley River Lodge has a string of private villas resting atop coastal dunes and overlooking beautiful scenery. Your villa is perfectly equipped to withstand and suit the Kimberley landscape, with air conditioning for the warmer days, and an open-air ensuite featuring a free standing bathtub where you can relax under the Kimberley stars. As the Berkeley River Lodge is on the coast, you will feel a cool ocean breeze, meaning that the Lodge is often cooler than surrounding inland towns. The Lodge is open from early March to late October each year.

    2. Kimberley Coastal Camp

The Kimberley Coastal Camp has been operating on the shore of the Admiralty Gulf since 1994, and offers fantastic hospitality amongst breathtaking scenery. The Coastal Camp truly is an exclusive retreat, with a capacity of 16 guests at any one time – this creates an intimate atmosphere, whilst allowing you to enjoy your privacy. The land surrounding the Camp offers a ream of activities, such as fishing, boating and exploring the ancient rock art in surrounding caves. In this bushland, you’ll also be able to spot native animals such as dingoes, sea eagles and quolls. You can explore the surrounds of the Lodge on foot, or else by boat or helicopter – your daily itinerary is completely up to you. Whilst the Kimberley Coastal Camp offers impressive accommodation and dining, there is a strong focus on sustainability and minimising the environmental impact of the Camp.

3. El Questro Homestead

Arguably the Kimberley’s most indulgent stay, the El Questro Homestead is located in the heart of El Questro, neighboured by towering orange cliffs which are contrasted by beautifully kept green lawns. The Homestead offers nine suites in total, with bedrooms overhanging the Chamberlain River below. Each day, guests are able to explore El Questro, with excursions including bushwalks, boat rides, four-wheel-drive adventures, helicopter flights, and horse back rides, meaning that you won’t be at a shortage of things to do throughout your stay. Food is a large focus at the Homestead, with a delicious three-course dinner each night featuring local produce. Visitors can be sure that their every need will be met at the Homestead, with excellent service being paramount – this truly is a luxury!
