Most Unique Helicopter Experiences in the Kimberley

There is no shortage of amazing experiences and destinations in the Kimberley. The entire northwest of Australia is a feast for the senses and will leave you not only in awe, but never wanting to leave. What better way to witness this vast and remote part of the country than from the sky? We have put together a few of the most unique ways to experience the Kimberley by helicopter.

Karratha Heli-Dive Experience

Say hello to Western Australia’s first heli-diving experience.

Discover the beauty of the rugged Pilbara landscape from above and then dive into a diverse underwater world. This unique heli-experience will take you high above the post-card perfect beaches before landing on a remote island of the Dampier Archipelago for an exclusive shore dive experience.

Spend almost an hour amongst some of Australia’s most biodiverse marine life and coral reef systems and keep your eye out for tropical fish, turtles and rays.

After your dive, you’ll fly by helicopter back over the thriving Pilbara landscape to Karratha to end your tour.

Please note: As we are flying under 2,000ft and not in a pressurised cabin, it is suitable to fly after your dive for this particular experience.

The Ultimate Kimberley Heli Pub Experience

Air Safari - Helicopter

If you’re partial to a pint or two, this heli-experience is for you!

Your first stop is the picturesque Lake Argyle Resort where you’ll be able to enjoy a swim in the spectacular infinity pool overlooking the lake and some lunch. You’ll then fly alongside the stunning Cockburn Range before landing at El Questro Station for refreshments at the Swinging Arm Bar.

The final stop is at Western Australia’s oldest continuously operating still, the Hoochery Distillery. Here you will join a tour of the distillery, rum tasting and snacks before your final flight over Kununurra and the magnificent Ord River.

Piccaninny Gorge Heli-Hike

If you are a hiking enthusiast, you will love this challenging adventure!

After a briefing with your guide, you will board a helicopter for a scenic flight over the southwest end of Purnululu National Park before landing at the remarkable Piccaninny Gorge. You’ll then be guided on a challenging yet incredibly picturesque 10km hike up the rocky creek bed of the gorge. As this trail is so infrequently visited in the park, your guide and you will have to create your own path in places.

Once you’ve reached the end of your hike, your return helicopter flight will take you high along the southern face, allowing views of the mouth of Cathedral Gorge as well as the iconic orange and black beehive-shaped domes.
