Four Day / Three Night Exclusive Cultural Experience

Immerse yourself in the authentic Aboriginal culture of the East Kimberley on this four-day package, departing from Kununurra.

Spend two nights at Home Valley on Balanggarra Country, where your group will have the resort to yourselves hosted by the Traditional Owners, exploring ancient rock art sites with a Balanggarra guide, discovering the majestic star-scapes of our unpolluted night skies and fishing for the elusive Barramundi with a local Nulla Nulla Aboriginal guide.

Home Valley would traditionally be inaccessible over the Kimberley wet season. However this newly launched air safari opens up access to some of the most prized locations in the East Kimberley. Located along the iconic Pentecost River on the Gibb River Road overlooking the magnificent Cockburn Ranges, there is no better place to enjoy the spectacular natural beauty and outback adventure of the Kimberley.

This is an exclusive experience and a first for Home Valley to offer cultural experiences for guests during the wet season. To keep the experience as personal as possible, the group numbers are limited to a maximum of eight guests per tour.

Day One – Arrive Kununurra

Enjoy some free time to explore the vibrant town of Kununurra. Take a stroll through Celebrity Tree Park, hike up Kelly’s Knob to experience 360 degree views of the Ord Valley or simply enjoy a swim by the pool. Spend the night in Kununurra’s finest accommodation, Freshwater East Kimberley Apartments.

Day Two – Home Valley (Heli Fishing & Stargazing Tour)

Today your adventure begins with a short scenic flight from Kununurra to Home Valley, taking you past the spectacular Cockburn Ranges. Enjoy remarkable views of the vast landscape from the comfort of an air-conditioned Aviair plane. Upon landing, a buffet breakfast awaits as you prepare for your days activities.

Departing by helicopter, fly over the remote river systems of the East Kimberley before landing at an exclusive location for a heli fishing adventure hosted by your Nulla Nulla Aboriginal guide. Try your hand at catching the elusive Barramundi, while soaking in the tranquil surroundings of this remote wilderness. Spot diverse birdlife, look out to the Cockburn Ranges in the distance and keep your eye out for a crocodile, although it isn’t until you take to the skies that you get a true perspective of these fascinating reptiles who normally do their best to keep hidden.

On your return to Home Valley retreat to your Riverside Suite which is shaded by towering eucalyptus, located on the banks of the beautiful Bindoola Creek, or relax by the pool with refreshments available at the Dusty Bar and Grill.

Dinner is also served at “Dusty’s” as it is affectionately known by the locals, choosing from a simple menu of quality Australian tucker accompanied by cold beers or bottled wine.

Following your evening meal and once the sun has set, join an experienced astronomy guide on a private stargazing tour. Enjoy the majestic star-scape at Balanggarra Home Valley in a location where we have some of the lowest light pollution in the world. Using state of the art telescopes and equipment, your guide will point out the stars, celestial objects and planets using a laser pointer as well as answering any of your questions, such as exploring our place in the universe or pointing out zodiac signs.

Please keep in mind that this will be the waterfall season and this complimentary tour will be weather dependent.

Day Three – Home Valley (Rock Art & Sunset Tour)

Take to the sky on a different adventure today, with a helicopter flight to a sacred Aboriginal rock art site on Balanggarra Country. Your flight will showcase the breathtaking landscape of Balanggarra Country before landing to join your Aboriginal guide as they share an insight into the history and meanings behind the ancient paintings.

This is a truly unique experience, with Balanggarra country being home to Australia’s oldest known rock shelter painting which has been dated at 17,000 years old.

Return by helicopter to Home Valley where you will once again get the opportunity to enjoy down time in your air-conditioned Riverside Suite or daybed on your private veranda. Relax and unwind with a dip in the refreshing pool or share stories of your days’ adventure at the Dusty Bar.

Finish the afternoon with a truly special experience before dinner, a sunset tour at one of the private lookouts on the property. You will not be disappointed as you unwind with nibbles and a drink in hand to watch the sun setting in this beautiful, untouched Kimberley outback.

Return for dinner at the Dusty Bar & Grill where you can mingle with the friendly Home Valley team and other travellers in your group. The perfect end to your short, but action-packed East Kimberley getaway.

Day Four – Return to Kununurra

Wake up to the sound of birdsong on your final day at Home Valley. Join the others in your group for a final breakfast and farewell your friendly hosts at Home Valley. Board your air-conditioned Aviair plane for the short return journey to Kununurra.

It will be your choice whether the adventure ends there, choose to make arrangements to fly home or add on to this incredible package by staying a few extra nights and discovering the highlights of the East Kimberley waterfall season. While many places do close down during this time of the year, we will be able to help plan a personalised itinerary which may include a scenic flight over the Bungle Bungle, private heli adventure to a remote waterfall or day trip to see Lake Argyle.
