Kununurra is widely known as the ‘gateway to East Kimberley’. It is the perfect base to discover some of Australia’s most remarkable natural attractions such as the World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park and the beehive-shaped Bungle Bungle Range. However, people often use Kununurra as just a starting point and miss the opportunity to truly immerse themselves in to this outback town.
If you’re planning on visiting the Kimberley in 2021, here are a few reasons why Kununurra should be on your bucket list!
Commonly known as the ‘gateway to the Kimberley’, Kununurra is the perfect place to start your East Kimberley adventure!
Pack your swimmers because Kununurra is surrounded by water! Swim, kayak or fish at Lake Kununurra or explore the stunning Ord River by boat (don’t forget to take a dip at sunset – it’s just magical!)
It’s frequently said that you haven’t seen Western Australia until you’ve seen it from the air. This is even more so the case in Western Australia’s Top End, with the rugged terrain, stunning contrasting colours of the earth, and the sheer vastness of the land only truly being appreciated from a bird’s eye point of view.
The combination of the mountainous and rugged landscape, matched with the ginormous bodies of water and heavy periods of rainfall means that the Kimberley is home to some of the most breathtaking and beautiful waterfalls in the country. These are some of the best ways to get the most out of these amazing natural wonders.
